Pastor Shelby Slowey
Pastor Shelby Slowey started at South End in July of 2022. A graduate of Vanderbilt Divinity School, she is passionate about equipping neighbors to cultivate communities of peace and justice. She was ordained in 2018 and has been serving local churches for over 15 years. A modern contemplative at heart, Shelby is also a trained spiritual director, and leads classes and workshops on contemplative practices. When not at church, you can find her either gardening, tending her chickens, or trying a new recipe. Shelby and her husband Stephan are parents to Scarlett, Phinn, and Sophie. The Slowey family enjoys hiking the many great trails near Nashville, going camping, and hosting parties in their home. More than anything, Shelby strives to be a good neighbor, and to provide hospitality for the heart, mind, and spirit of all whom she encounters.

Irene and her family have been members of South End for almost fifty years. Irene grew up in Mississippi and graduated from Millsaps College. She came to Nashville with her first job as a teacher for Metro Nashville Public Schools. She and Don have two children, Allison and Cam, and three grandsons. She previously served as South End’s Administrative Assistant for 20 years, and has served as our Chairperson of Education, UMW Treasurer, and is currently the Chair of Administrative Council. Irene came out of retirement when asked to return as South End’s part-time administrator in June of 2022.
